Launch Event Report – 24 August, 2024

The Sudan Women Action Group (SWAG) held a successful launch event on August 24, 2024, marking a significant step forward in our mission to empower and support Sudanese women within the community in Scotland and Sudan. The event was not only a celebration of our official launch but also a critical platform for building community links and establishing valuable partnerships that will help drive our future endeavours.

Overview

The launch event was held in Glasgow University ARC, drawing a diverse crowd of attendees, including representatives from various community organisations such as the Sudanese Communiy, Maryhill Integration Network, Community Infosource (CIS), Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP), SIY Host Families, Scottish Women’s Aid, Scottish Refugee Council (SRC), CEMVO Scotland, HSFC, Saheliya,  and amazing supporters who volunteered to help during the event. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, hope, and a shared commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of Sudanese women and youth.

Key Achievements

      1. Strengthening Community Links:

The event successfully brought together a wide range of organisations that are dedicated to supporting marginalised communities. This gathering facilitated open discussions, networking, and the exchange of ideas, which are crucial for building a strong, interconnected community that can support the Integration of Sudanese Youth in Scotland and the empowerment of Sudanese women in Scotland and abroad.

        1. Launch of Partnership with Save Elgeneina Initiative

A major highlight of the event was the formal launch of our partnership with the “Save Elgeneina Initiative”. This partnership aims to address critical issues affecting Sudanese women in displacement sites and refugee camps in Sudan and neighbouring countries. The collaboration sets a foundation for fundraising, joint projects and sharing resources with the goal of providing essential support and advocacy for women affected by conflict and displacement.

          1. Building a Platform for Future Collaborations:

The presence of various organisations created an excellent opportunity to discuss potential collaborations to support our Sudanese Youth integration Project in Scotland and fundraising for our partnership with Save Elgeneina initiative. We are optimistic about the partnerships formed at the event and look forward to working closely with all attending organisations to amplify our impact.

        Acknowledgments and Gratitude

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the organisations and individuals who attended and showed interest in our mission. Your presence and support have energised our efforts, and we look forward to future collaborations that will benefit the community.

A special thank you goes out to our dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the event ran smoothly, helping with photography, registration and welcoming our guests. Your energy, and willingness to support SWAG are deeply appreciated. This event’s success would not have been possible without your support.

        Looking Ahead

SWAG is excited about the journey ahead and the potential impact of our initiatives. With the support of our partners and volunteers, we aim to continue empowering Sudanese women through community support, funding and advocacy. We also hope that our workshops for Sudanese Youth in Scotland and stakeholders supporting them will take shape soon. This launch is just the beginning of many impactful collaborations that will drive positive change within our community and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making our launch a memorable and successful event. Together, we can support a brighter future for Sudan. Please get in touch with us via email info@sudanwomenactiongroup.org for more details on how to get involved.
